Being a work at home mom, usually one day differs very little from the next. Weekends aren’t much different from weekdays, vacation days are about the same as work days. But for some reason, Mondays still suck just as bad as they did when I was working fulltime. There’s really no more or no less work than any other day of the week, but for some reason my children become possessed while they’re sleeping on Sunday nights.
On a normal day, the babies are into everything, but Mondays are special. They get all kinds of good ideas that make absolutely no sense to me. Take yesterday, for example…
Incident #1 D, the 16 month old, decided it would be fun to climb from couch to couch, halfway jumping over the gap between them. Worked fine the first two times, but I stopped him anyway. The minute I turn my back, he tries it again and WHACK! Forehead into the side of the coffee table. Lovely lil goose egg pops up and when daddy gets home, somehow it becomes my fault.
Incident #2 K, the 2 1/2 year old, is my less adventurous child. He’s kinda scared of heights, so I don’t have to pull him off of the furniture very often. However, he has this irritating habit of putting things in his mouth. Yesterday it was a pen. You know, the kind that you can clip to things. Well, somehow he managed to get it clipped to his lip and can’t get it off. Of course, he doesn’t want me to touch it, so he’s screaming and running around the living room until I can catch him and free his lip. Thankfully, there was no mark or blood involved or that would have been my fault, too.
Incident #3 This one was a bit similar to the last kidventure with the pen, but a little bit scarier. K found himself a golfball and decided that would be a fun thing to try to eat. Where he got a golf ball, I’m still trying to figure out. The only person in his life that plays is his Poppy, so I can only figure that he swiped the ball when we were over there. Anyway, while shoving the ball into his mouth, it got stuck between his teeth and he couldn’t open his mouth far enough to get it back out. Again with the screaming and running, but mama to the rescue, once again.
After the third disaster was averted, I decided to give up trying to work and just spent the rest of the afternoon contemplating getting a job in the real world. I hear Mondays suck there, too, but at least you get paid a little better for it….
Next week, I’m calling in sick on Monday. Think it’ll work?

golfball? Scary as hell! But the pen clipped to the lip? I’m sorry but I had to laugh at envisioning K running around with you chasing him.
I don’t envy you but I can say that even went I didn’t work at home, I was home with Bebe and Shorty for a full year… and I know exactly how Mondays go! I’m sorry hun!
hahaha i had one of those Mondays too! i wrote about it on my blog too. In the words of Cindi Lauper “just another manic Monday, wish it were Sunday cuz that’s my fun day”
