Nintendo DS Zenses and Rubik’s World Review and Giveaway

by Shannan on March 21, 2009

I’m often caught throwing around annoyance about my oldest and my hubby and their addiction to video games. Realistically though, I shouldn’t say a word, because I’m a closet gamer myself. After everyone else is in bed and I’m finished with work, I often unwind with a Nintendo DS game, playing until my eyes just can’t take anymore.  So when Game Factory Games offered me the opportunity to try out a few of their newest releases, I was beyond excited! I received Zenses: Rainforest, Zenses: Ocean and Rubik’s World for the Nintendo DS.

Zenses: Rainforest and Zenses: Ocean

I am already totally addicted to the Zenses games. Each game has 6 different puzzle games, which is exactly the type of games I enjoy most. I love games that challenge my mind, just a little bit but aren’t so involved that I have to spend hours trying to figure them out. These games are a perfect balance of fun and challenge. Plus, they are targeted at women – a rare thing in the gaming world. Yep, these are mine! I will accuse anyone else in this house of playing a girly game if I catch any scores in the high score table that I didn’t earn!

One of the best things about the Zenses games is the soundtrack. The music is soothing and relaxing, creating a spa-like feel, that when coupled with the pretty natural scenes of the background, allows you to lose yourself in the games. I caught myself falling asleep while playing in bed more than once.

Each of the two games has a unique set of puzzles to enjoy, letting you find the right one to suit your mood. Some require almost no thought at all, while others will make you think under pressure. You can choose the level of intensity of each game, as well, allowing you to customize your experience each time you play. If you enjoy puzzles to help you unwind, the Zenses games are a great choice.

Rubik’s World

rubiks

If you spent much of the 80′s peeling the stickers off of your Rubik’s Cube in frustration, trying to make it look like you were smart enough to solve that sucker, Rubik’s World is for you! This awesome game not only provides a step by step tutorial of how to solve the cube, but also has tons of other fun games, as well.

Each of the games features the Cubies, which are the individual pieces of the Rubik’s Cube. As you play, you unlock different features, that allow you to teach and interact with the Cubies. They learn from you, as you go along creating an interactive element to the game.

I’ll admit, working a Rubik’s Cube on a screen, with a stylus takes a little getting used to. But once I spent some time getting used to the feel of moving the sides around, I really got into it. And no, I haven’t solved the cube yet, but I’ve come really close a few times. I just need to go back through the tutorial again and see what it is I’m missing. This child of the 80′s is enjoying reliving her youth with Rubik’s World!

Game Factory Games has given me one copy each of Zenses:Rainforest and Zenses:Ocean to give away to my readers! You heard it right! Two of you will get a great DS game, all of your own. All you have to do is visit the Game Factory Games website, then come back here and tell me which of their other games you think you or your family would enjoy.
