Leapfrog Scribble and Write Review

by Shannan on November 23, 2009

scribwriteIt’s time for the Global Influence holiday guide and I was lucky enough to get the chance to review the Leapfrog Scribble and Write as my contribution to this edition.

With a 2 ½ and 3 ½ yr old, we’re knee deep in preschool learning over here and are very interested in writing letters, so the Scribble and Write is a perfect fit for us. K is really excited about working on his letters and learning to write his name.

The Scribble and Write offers a lot of different learning games, teaching both upper and lower case letters, numbers, and shapes. It is sturdy and seems to be quite durable, plus the stylus is attached, keeping it from getting lost in the toy box.

One of my favorite features of the Scribble and Write is the stylus that the kids use to trace the lights on the screen. It is the perfect size for little hands, with raised ridges to help train them to hold their pencil properly. Positioning of a crayon or pencil is something that K has been struggling with, so this should help him take some huge steps in the right direction.

Another plus about this product, and many of Leapfrog’s other products, is the voice used to narrate play. Rather than an adult computerized voice, they chose a child’s voice, making it seem even more friendly and fun.

Biggest pro? The kids really seem to enjoy it! I think the Scribble and Write is going to have some serious staying power around here over the next couple of years.

I don’t have any major complaints about this toy, but do have a couple suggestions that I think would make a good thing even better. There is a volume control, but even on the “low” setting, it is still a bit loud. A third choice that’s just a tad quieter would be nice. The only thing that I think is missing from the Scribble and Write is a handle. It’s the perfect size to take along, but without a handle, I know it’s going to see its share of drops from my boys. Thank goodness it seems to be designed with a clumsy preschooler in mind!

The Scribble and Write retails for $21.99 and is available at the Leapfrog website, Amazon.com and many major toy retailers.

This product provided review is a part of the Global Influence holiday guide.
