Fifteen years ago today, I embarked on my journey through the wild world that is motherhood.
I was a scared, confused seventeen year old who had barely made it through the baby stage myself, but at that point, I swore I was wise beyond my years. I thought I knew it all, but would soon find out that I knew next to nothing.
At 1:20PM, my life changed forever when J came into this world. The little girl that I was made her exit and I became a woman…and a mother. I wouldn’t change that for the world, ready or not.
J and I have had some ups and downs over the years, but I think I’ve done a pretty good job with him, with the help of my supportive family. He’s become a handsome, intelligent and caring young man, who I am proud to call my son.
J,
I can’t believe that I have had the privilege of being your mother for fifteen years. Thank you for your patience when I got it wrong and your appreciation when I got it right. Though life hasn’t always been perfect, I think you turned out pretty darn good. You are smart, handsome, funny and as close to perfect as any mother could ask for.
I have enjoyed watching you grow into a man, though I sometimes miss the baby I cuddled in my arms, so many years ago. Soon you’ll be an adult, bringing me home babies of your own for me to cuddle. (But not too soon, please…I’m still way too young to be a grandma.)
Thank you for changing my life for the better.
Happy Birthday. You’ll always be my baby.
I love you,
Mom
