Virtual Holiday Extravaganza for Toys for Tots – Giveaway – Closed

by Shannan on December 13, 2010

A few weeks ago, I was invited by some of my favorite Philly bloggers to join them in a fabulous fundraiser for Toys for Tots. Unfortunately, due to timing and logistics, I wasn’t able to join them at the Holiday Extravaganza on December 9th, but instead I, along with several other fabulous bloggers, was given the opportunity to share a virtual version of the celebration with all of you!

On Thursday evening , Chester County Moms Holiday Extravaganza event collected more than 1300 toys for their local Toys for Tots program. That’s 450 children who will have gifts on Christmas day! Today we’re taking the campaign to a national level by sharing with you a bit about Toys for Tots.

The Marine Corps adopted Toys for Tots in 1948 and expanded it into a nationwide campaign and Marines have conducted successful nationwide campaigns at Christmas each year since 1948.

I’m sure you’ve seen the Toys for Tots collection bins placed in local area stores or heard about events to raise money and gifts for this organization. Dropping off toys at a donation center isn’t the only way to support this fantastic cause, you can also donate online, as well. Visit to see the many ways that you can donate or to find local toy drop offs for your area.

As a part of the Virtual Holiday Extravaganza event, I am able to give away some fantastic prizes from several great sponsors to my readers. Let the fun begin!

THREE lucky winners will walk away with one of the following prizes.

Playmobil Firestation – retail value $74.99

AboutOne membership – One year’s subscription to their online family management system. Want to try it out? Check out the site for a 15 day free trial.

Backyard Safari Outfitters prize pack – Cargo Vest, Field Binos, Mega View Periscope, Bug Vacuum, Adventurer Kit Approximate Retail Value is $91.95

To enter to win, leave me a comment telling me a little something about your own experiences or thoughts about Toys for Tots.

Want some extra entries? Tweet about the giveaway and come back and leave me a another comment! (no more than 2 per day)

Giveaway will end on 12/17 at 11:59 PM EST. Winners will be selected by and notified by email. Winners have 24 hours to respond or another winner will be selected.

*Please note – we cannot guarantee holiday delivery of prizes for this giveaway.

As a member of the Holiday Extravaganza Digital Campaign, this post has been sponsored by Playmobil. I have received samples of all of the products and the companies are sending them to our winners, with the exception of Playmobil which I will be shipping upon address confirmation.

My lack of experience says I need to GET some experience with the program. As a mom of four, it pains me to know some kids will be waking up with virtually zero for Christmas. I need to get bemore involved, and so can my own kids. Thank you for bringing this to my attention. I’ll check out that link!

I love to buy toys on sale through out the year (I start with the after Christmas toy clearance sales). Then I donate them to toy drives during the holidays. I have a couple of bags full of toys that I’m going to drop off. I love Toys for Tots.

Thanks for the amazing giveaway. My daughter loves, loves, loves Playmobil toys.

Toys For Tots is a wonderful organization. I have personally never received gifts for my kids from them, we have been blessed and have always been able to provide for our own. We do donate every year, my kids go with us and each pick out a toy to give to Toys For Tots. I believe it is a wonderful organization and a good way to teach kids about helping out with others.

I love Toys for Tots! I start shopping for toys back in July, with them in mind. Seeing the look on a retired Marines face, makes it even more worth it!!

I love this time of year. Its my feel good about brightening someone else’s day time. I thankfully never went with out toys or food for that matter and the thought of kids ,families really anyone having to go with out breaks my heart. I have been known to bring stray friends/families to our family Holidays. But it really makes for a better world and a great day!

28 Cheryl December 14, 2010 at 1:47 pm

I love how easy Toys for Tots makes it to get toys into the hands of kids who might otherwise go without.

29 Lori December 14, 2010 at 2:16 pm

I think TOYS-for-TOTS is a wonderful program! As a mom, I can only imagine how heartbreaking it would be to not be able to provide your children with the joyous and magical opportunity of waking up on Christmas morning to find toys from Santa. As children, it must be equally hard to hear peers talk about their gifts from Santa, when you yourself did not receive any! Toys-for-Tots helps families avoid these heartbreaking moments! Thank goodness! My husband’s workplace is actively involved in the Toys-for-Tots, and he participates and contributes every year! Every child should be able to wake up to gifts from Santa on Christmas morning – than you Toys-for-Tots for making this happen!

33 Stefanie Schrampf December 14, 2010 at 11:05 pm

At the Holiday Extravaganza, I was truly inspired by the men who donate their time to this cause. These marines put a lot of time into collecting the toys and I never really thought about this before. They are my heroes this Christmas season.

34 Amy DePaul December 14, 2010 at 11:33 pm

I was lucky enough to attend the Chester County Moms Holiday Extravaganza this year…and donated toys there as well as other toys for tots locations…what a great cause! We also adopt a family at my daughter’s school…and we just finished shopping for the little boy we were assigned and hope he enjoys all the toys we got him!

i’m a HUGE fan of toys for tots – my neighbor is a retired marine, so it is close to my heart. he is very involved — and it is SO great for the kids. at their ages, giving away a toy has more meaning that giving away money, you know what i mean?

I used to manage a toys r us and around christmas time the troops would come and actually ahve a few thousand dollars to spend, we would give them carts then let them park them in a designated area, then I would have to check out about a billion toys while they loaded their truck. They had a great time doing it and it warmed my heart knowing all those toys went to those in need.

48 Kristine (Mommy Needs Therapy) December 16, 2010 at 1:47 pm

My 3yo and I just met the Bucks County coordinator, Kevin Miller, to drop off a box of toys. It was very interesting trying to explain to Kiel what we were doing and why. He was a little sad about giving up the toys, and he had a hard time understanding that some children don’t have toys like he does. What a great thing to start teaching him though, that we are very fortunate. As a mom I know how lucky we are and how easily it could turn and be us needing this help.

I think it’s a great program except I would like to see them screen more. I’ve seen people online bragging about getting toys and then putting them up for sale or other ways they’ve scammed them.We still like them, though, and have donated many times.

55 Ellie W December 17, 2010 at 1:37 am

We always let each kid buy a toy to drop off at a Toys For Tots location. I want to teach my kids to give back and to help those less fortunate.

In college we did a Christmas party at the BCM (BSU) and brought presents for some of the local kids. Usually there were only a few of us students for the party, but I loved serving the local families and handing out toys for the kids. Lego kits, dolls and baseball sets seemed to be perennial favorites.

When my kids were young, I never even gave a thought to Toys for Tots. But now that I have grandkids and see the world differently, it’s quite a new experience. I’m trying to give back to those that might not have had such a lucky life as I did. Toys for Tots is just one way to do that.

We’ve donated here and there to Toys for tots, not as often as I feel we should and were able to though. It’s sad to think of anyone; let alone children waking up Christmas morning without even a small gift waiting for them. For children it’s the excitement and joy and the belief that something good is waiting for them and to help give them that even in the smallest way is very important.

81 Viva December 17, 2010 at 10:59 pm

I have donated in the past and it’s such a great program. Thanks!

82 carol y December 17, 2010 at 11:06 pm

We donate every year, but this year my son’s class chose Toys For Tots as their class philanthropy project. He had a great time choosing gifts for the class box!

90 Lesley M. December 18, 2010 at 12:27 am

I shop (or should I say stockpile!) toys for Toys for Tots all year round. That way, it’s not as much of a financial burden to buy a lot of toys just at Christmastime. Sometimes, I’ll ask a store manager if they’ll give me a discount for buying in bulk, and one time I was able to donate a bunch of dump trucks that were on clearance!

91 Shane R. December 18, 2010 at 12:29 am

Toys for Tots not only helps those in need, but helps children learn how to give to others. Every child should learn how it feels to give away a toy they would like to have themself.
