It’s official. I’ve become one of those Disney people. We’ve just returned from the Disney Social Media Moms Celebration and once again, we had a simply magical time. So magical, in fact, that I spent half the ride home planning what I want to see and do the next time we’re able to make the trip to the House of the Mouse. A’s not so gung-ho on doing that crazy drive again soon, but I’m sure when it’s time, he’ll be almost as ready as the kids and I will be.
Last Wednesday morning at 3 AM, after a completely sleepless night, we drug the sleeping kids out of bed, popped them into the car and hit the road. Once they woke up and realized that they were not in their beds, it hit them that it was FINALLY TIME! We were headed to Walt Disney World! At 3 and 5, I expected a heck of a lot more whining on a 15 hour car trip, but they were pretty much awesome. (Thank you to whoever invented portable DVD players. Had to be a mom.) We stopped for the night in Deltona to get some rest, since the word on Twitter was that the Orlando hotels were pretty much packed. After a good night’s sleep, it was up early and off to the Walt Disney World Resort to check in!
For this year’s event, Disney had placed us in rooms at the Grand Floridian. All I can say is HOLY WOW! This resort is simply the crème de la crème of Disney hotels. From the elegant lobby with live musicians to the super comfy beds in the rooms, that was an experience that I’ll never forget.
As we pulled into the parking lot, this was what greeted us:
And the lobby was even more amazing!
Our rooms weren’t quite ready when we checked in, so off we went to check in for the conference (after grabbing quick hugs from Cindy and Audrey on the way) and pick up all our goodies, tickets and credentials. I was thrilled to run into Caryn during check-in and to see Amy and Mary from MomSelect again. Next we hopped the Monorail for a quick trip into the Magic Kingdom for some fun before coming back to get settled in our room before the first event.
Let the Memories Begin!
That first glimpse of the castle always brings tears to my eyes…
Our Disney tradition is to start off with a spin on The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh…complete with a quick stop at the new interactive queue.
From there, we visited a few other favorites before heading back to get ready for our first official event. The Disney Weddings Platinum Soiree deserves its own post, with the wonderful experiences and information shared there, so more about that later. Stick around, it’ll be worth it.
Once the festivities at the Wedding Pavilion were complete, we joined back up with our families for a wonderful dinner and carnival games, right on the lawn and beach of the Grand Floridian. Some special guests popped by for some added fun, as well.
With full bellies and happy hearts, we started to walk back to the room when it occurred to me that it was still only about 8 PM and the Magic Kingdom was open until after midnight. So we threw caution to the wind, hopped back on the Monorail and finished our evening by watching The Magic, The Memories and You and Wishes right from the deck of Cosmic Ray’s. (Yes, I cried…I cry at home, watching them on YouTube…what?) A magical end to our first day at Disney…
Lots more to come!
Disclosure: While I did purchase my conference pass, Walt Disney World provided deep discounts on rooms, park tickets, meals, special events and other gifts and surprises. All opinions are, as always, my own.
